Kyoto monthly rental house. Welcome to Shinnyo House, a spiritual abode located between Kyoto University and the Philosopher’s Path at the foot of the Shinnyō-dō Temple.

About Shinnyo house
こんにちは!Shinnyo House is managed by a European–Japanese teacher couple and is intended for medium- and long-term stays in Kyoto (minimum stay: one month).
The house was conceived as a quiet and comfortable place to live, designed for guests seeking more than short-term accommodation — researchers, academics, writers, or visitors wishing to experience everyday life in Kyoto in a calm residential setting.
A Home Designed for Extended Stays
Shinnyo House is a traditional Japanese home carefully maintained and fully furnished to a high standard of comfort.
It combines the elegance of traditional machiya-style architecture with modern conveniences, making it well suited to extended stays, sabbaticals, and professional or academic visits.
Rather than a tourist-oriented rental, the house is intended as a genuine living space, where guests can settle in, work, and enjoy a slower, more authentic rhythm of life in Kyoto.
A Quiet Residential Environment with Clean Air and Natural Surroundings
Located in the Kagura-oka area, on the Yoshida–Sakyō side of Kyoto, Shinnyo House benefits from a particularly calm residential environment known for its clean air, greenery, and proximity to temples and walking paths.
Just a short distance from Kyoto University, the Philosopher’s Path, and Shinnyo-dō Temple, the neighbourhood has long been favoured by professors, scholars, and artists for its balance between intellectual life, nature, and tranquility.
A Personal and Direct Approach to Hosting
Shinnyo House is managed directly, without an agency intermediary.
This allows for clear communication, transparent conditions, and a personal approach to each stay, adapted to the specific needs of long-term guests.
The house is also listed on SabbaticalHomes (Spiritual abode at the foot of shinnyo-do temple near Kyoto university), a well-known platform dedicated to academic and long-term stays, reflecting its orientation toward serious, extended visits rather than short tourist rentals
Living in Kyoto, Not Just Visiting
Staying at Shinnyo House means living in a real neighbourhood, with local shops, cafés, temples, and daily services within walking distance, while remaining close to Kyoto’s cultural and academic centres.
The aim is simple: to offer a peaceful, reliable, and authentic place from which to experience Kyoto over time, with comfort, discretion, and respect for the surrounding environment.
